May 2019, Conifex Timber Co. of Canada announced that its Fort St James plant in British Columbia had been closed for four weeks and its Mackenzie sawmill in the same province had been closed for three weeks because of strong timber market prices.
The temporary shutdown is expected to reduce Conifex's production in the province by about 24 million plate feet.
The main businesses of Conifex Wood and its subsidiaries currently include logging, afforestation, forest management, sawmills (logs processed into wood or sawdust), and high value-added wood finishing and distribution.
Conifex's timber is mainly sold to markets in the United States, China, Canada and Japan.
